Vincent, starring F. Reed Brown, will be performed both as a part of the Discovery Series at 1 pm on Friday, February 9 and as an evening show for all audiences at 7:30 pm on Friday, February 9.
The passion and the tormented beauty of the life of artist Vincent van Gogh is dramatized in this one-man play, which actor/author Leonard Nimoy adapted from letters written by the artist to his brother, Theo van Gogh. Theo is the principal character of the play and he struggles to convince the audience that his brother was not, in fact, a fool or a madman.
Over the course of his life, Vincent wrote Theo more than 500 heartfelt, emotional letters, particularly during the period when he was trying to find his artistic voice.
After Vincent died, Theo was asked to speak at the funeral. Theo couldn’t bear to do it because he was too heartbroken by the death of his brother. By studying the letters from Vincent to Theo, Leonard Nimoy has created this visionary one-man play in order to explore what Theo may have been thinking, how he was feeling, and what he wished he could say to his brother at that time.
