Octagon House Museum John Richards, a pioneer Watertown settler, designed and built the five-story Octagon House, completed in 1854. The Octagon House is one of the largest single-family residences of the pre-Civil War Period in the Midwest, with over 8,000 square feet of floor space and 57 rooms. Behind the house is the first Kindergarten in the United States and the Plank Road Pioneer Barn which houses pioneer tours and farm implements. Fully guided tours every hour on the hour. The admission fee covers touring all the historical buildings on the Octagon House grounds.
